I like to think of my paintings as mini-biographies.

Oil Portraits by Jean Pilk

A portrait by Jean Pilk is no ordinary painting. Jean has a unique way of approaching her work so that it conveys both the likeness and the personality of the person depicted. One way she achieves this is by deftly incorporating objects of personal significance into the painting. These personal items help to create the visual biography that is a hallmark of a Jean Pilk portrait.

It’s easy to commission a portrait, even if you live hundreds of miles from Jean’s Maine studio. If you’re not able to sit for her, you can supply Jean with photographs to refer to. Whether she works from a model or photos, Jean’s gift is her ability to impart the subject’s personality to her work. Jean gets to know her subjects by talking to them, or to those who knew them, and then weaves all that she learns into her paintings.
